Lycophytes

Lycophytes are a group of plants commonly known as clubmosses, spikemosses, and quillworts. They represent the oldest living group of vascular plants (plants that have tissue to carry water and minerals through the plant). Although lycophytes were once considered to be fern allies, modern biology places them in their own group, whereas some of the other "fern allies" (such as horsetails) are now considered to be ferns.
