Seabeach Sandwort
Honckenya peploides
Seabeach sandwort is rare in Connecticut; the state classifies it as a species of special concern. The plants shown were photographed in Newfoundland, Canada, where seabeach sandwort is more common.

Seabeach sandwort flowers are either male (staminate) or female (pistillate). These are the male flowers. Note that the petals on these flowers are as long as or slightly longer than the sepals. On female flowers, the petals are much smaller than the sepals.

This is a plant with female flowers. The globe-shaped structures are the developing seed capsules.
