Young damselflies (nymphs) have used this water lobelia to climb out of the water just before their metamorphosis into adults. The abandoned skins (light brown) of several nymphs still cling to the stem. If you look closely, you may be able to pick out a newly emerged adult damselfly (upper part of the stem on the right side).
