In 2020, the RTPEC, a Connecticut Audubon Center, moved into this 5-acre property, located along the Lieutenant River, the site of the former Bee & Thistle Inn. The land includes tidal riparian wetlands, an upland open space with hedgerows along two property lines, and a variety of large specimen trees. In August, 2024, Chris Penniman led a CBS field trip to the RTPEC along the hedgerow adjacent to the Florence Griswold Museum property. This year’s trip will focus on the tidal riparian wetlands. Chris leads a team of volunteer UConn Master Gardeners at the Center. They updated existing gardens with native plants and are planting a native plant garden for birds this summer.
