The RTPEC, a Connecticut Audubon Center, moved into its permanent new location in 2020. This 5.25-acre property, located along the Lieutenant River, is the site of the former Bee & Thistle Inn. The land includes tidal riparian wetlands, an upland open space with hedgerows along two property lines, and a variety of large historic trees. As a botanist and a native plant gardener, CBS Board Member Chris Penniman leads a team of volunteer UConn Master Gardeners maintaining the existing gardens, updating them with native plants, and designing future native plant gardens for birds. We will explore all these areas and she will talk about what the gardeners are doing to bring in more native plants.
